Club Career

Brian "Cobi" Span played two years of college soccer at the University of Virginia, scoring 12 goals and registering 8 assists during that time.

After his sophomore season, the winger felt ready to go professional, but MLS did not offer him a Generation Adidas contract. Instead, the Somers native signed a two-year deal with Djurgården of Sweden.

Span made his debut for the team in May 2012 and scored his first professional goal three days later in a 1-1 draw with Helsingborgs IF. He was released by Djurgården after the 2013 season.

Span made his way back to the United States where he signed with MLS side Dallas FC in January 2014. He would not make any appearance for the team as he was sent out on loan to Orlando SC. Dallas would release span on February 5, 2015.

Despite the release, Span would not stay unemployed for long as he signed with Finnish side several days later.

International Career

While not a recent national team participant, Span was a member of the U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida.

Hearts head coach Robbie Nielsen has confirmed that Perry Kitchen will miss Thursday's Europa League game.
