Former University of South Florida forward Rodrigo Hidalgo's trial with Irish top flight club Bohemians has been ended prematurely after the precocious attacker was injured in his first friendly with the club.

The USF star, who last term notched six goals for the Bulls, had been slated to be with the Gypsies until the 28th, but now finds himself back home tending to his wounds.

"I was there from Monday morning, but my trial was cut short," Hidalgo told YA. "In my first game, the second string goalie wasn't there, and in the 60th minute, the starting keeper got injured."

"I volunteered to go in, having (tended goal) a bit in the past. On the last play of the game, I sprawled out (to make a save) and got kneed by the forward in the face."

"I ended up breaking my nose and losing a front tooth. (I) also got 22 stitches in the inside of my gum," he said.

Regardless of the injury, Hidalgo, who had previously trialed with Norwegian outfit Aalesund FK, was unabashed about his short excursion and spoke proudly of the positive terms on which he left the club.

"It is a bummer, but the days that I was there, I did well," he reported. "The head coach gained a lot of respect for me, for my courage in going in as a keeper even though I play as a forward."

"Most people would've never done what I did," boasted Hidalgo.

While the Floridian asserts that Bohemians maintain some interest in him for the future, he went on to speak of his frustration with this year in his career and offered a different hypothesis for his next move.

"It's difficult to go to a country and prove yourself in that time as a player," shared Hidalgo. "In my case, I've been a bit unfortunate this year."

"First Generation adidas didn't offer me a contract, and then I wasn't able to enter the (MLS) draft. I really do hope that in the next few weeks I can come to a conclusion, and can just settle down with a club."

"I believe that my next step is in America," he concluded. "The USL is always there."
