According to his agent, Serie A surprise package Siena are trying to clear a non-European Union spot for former Notre Dame holding midfielder Greg Dalby.
The former US Under-20 skipper spent 10 days displaying his wares for the Tuscan outfit, and coach Mario Beretta is eager to bring the player aboard.
However, the club already have a full compliment of squad members lacking a European passport; no more than three are allowed on the field at any time.
"Siena want to sign him, but at the moment they have three non-EU players," David Baldwin told YA. "They absolutely loved Greg."
For now, the California native is headed to a trial with a top flight team outside of Italy.
"We had another club approach him," revealed Baldwin. "He is on a train heading there right now."
Dalby, an All-American selection his junior and senior seasons with the Fighting Irish, was selected 17th overall by the Colorado Rapids during the recent MLS SuperDraft.
Despite a one-point administrative penalty, Siena currently stand 10th in Serie A and only five points out of a UEFA Cup spot.
