US defender Cory Gibbs has been given his outright release from Feyenoord, effective immediately.
His agent, Chiel Dekker, told Algemeen Dagblad that the player has other options both in and outside of Holland.
The former FC Dallas and St Pauli man arrived last January on a four-and-a-half year contract, and immediately won a starting job under coach Ruud Gullit.
Gibbs injured his knee in last May's international friendly with England, and required a second fall surgery after the problem continued.
Gullit was then fired in the summer, and the American has yet to play for new boss Erwin Koeman.
On Monday, the coach told Gibbs that he could look for a new club, but the player replied that he preferred to prove himself at De Kuip.
The defender had only returned to Rotterdam last week with the intention of battling his way back into the lineup after months of stateside rehab.
Gibbs is one of four Feyenoord players recently told by Koeman that they are surplus to requirements.
YA are awaiting comment from the club.
