Effective immediately, Liverpool defender Zak Whitbread has joined Millwall on loan until the new year.
The 21-year old defender has signed until January 3rd although it is believed the South London side, currently bottom of England's Champiosnhip, will seek to extend his stay until the end of the season.
"He might sign for a bit longer," Millwall Press Officer Deano Standing told YA. "Although for the moment, we only have him until January."
"Our scouts knew Zak was a good young player who was not getting enough first-team football at Liverpool and that we could offer him that opportunity here."
The Houston native has played only six times for the European champions since coming through their academy to debut against Millwall in October of 2004.
The Lions are certainly in need of help, sitting bottom of the Championship after 20 games, but buoyed by a recent 2-2 draw that knocked Sheffield United from the top spot.
"We have problems ourselves at the moment with one player on loan who has to go back and two of our other center backs are injured, so we were desperate for a center half," Standing confessed.
"Zak is very promising and we hope he will fit the bill for us. He will make his debut against Leeds on Saturday."
