Upon further examination, PSV Eindhoven winger DaMarcus Beasley has been diagnosed as having a knee strain that puts the rest of his season in doubt.
The U.S. star was injured in a nightmare collision with rugged FC Twente defender Daniel Majstorovic in Friday's 2-2 draw, also suffering a laceration and bruising under his left knee.
The players converged on a loose ball just before time, and Beasley got the worst of it with the Swede's studs crashing into his upper shin.
Initially, the club were hopeful that the attacker could be ready in time for Wednesday's Champions League semifinal decider with AC Milan, but a Sunday MRI scan showed otherwise.
"He has an injury to his knee," PSV press officer Pedro Salazar told YA on Monday. "We expect him to be out between three and five weeks."
The Dutch champs report that there is no need for surgery, but still may have to close their campaign in the May 29th Amstel Cup final without Beasley.
The injury also places the speedster in jeopardy of missing out on the USA's CONCACAF World Cup qualifier with Costa Rica on June 4th.
As it stands, Beasley has a PSV third-best total of 12 goals in 44 matches across all competitions.
