CHAD WINGER - Wednesday, January 19, 2005
Los Angeles Galaxy defender Danny Califf today arrived in Scandinavia, as he attempts to secure a bid from UEFA Cup-qualified Vålerenga of the Norwegian Tippeligaen.

"[Califf] arrives today, and will remain for 10 days," VIF's Lene Carr confirmed to YA on Wednesday.

24 year-old Califf, coming off an injury plagued 2004 season with Los Angeles in which made only 12 appearances, is still under contract with MLS.

However, if the Norwegian runners-up find the services of the Maryland native in demand, the Oslo side would tender an offer to the league, Carr simply stating "Yes," when asked if the club would be prepared table an offer to the central defender.

A five-year Galaxy veteran, Califf has appeared in 103 matches for the side, amassing 5 goals, and was a member of club's 2002 MLS Cup champions.

Califf also has 12 caps for the USMNT, scoring his one international goal in a February 2004 friendly with Haiti at the Orange Bowl in Miami. He was previously a member of the 2000 Olympic team which finished fourth in Australia.

Vålerenga finished tied with 13-time champions Rosenborg on points for the 2004 Tippeligaen campaign, missing out on the title by virtue of the 3rd tie-breaker - goals scored.

The Oslo club is currently involved in the Royal League where they lead their group and will participate in next year's UEFA Cup.
